Permanent markers contain xylene and toluene (toxic solvents). Water-based markers less toxic but still contain dyes. Can cause GI upset and neurological symptoms.
Symptoms within 1-4 hours
GI upset, respiratory irritation, neurological symptoms from solvents
Note if permanent or water-based. Wash ink off skin. Monitor for symptoms.
Drooling, vomiting, difficulty breathing, neurological symptoms, colored vomit/stool
Call vet if permanent marker ingested or if symptoms appear.
